Do you have a particular outdoor space in South Hero that you love? Maybe it’s Round Pond State Park, or Tracy Woods, The Folsom Learning Garden, or the Roy Marsh Trail. You may not know this, but regular community members like you play key roles in keeping these places open, safe and looking beautiful for all of us to enjoy.
And, starting this spring, South Hero Land Trust is launching our new Volunteer Land Stewards Program where community members can “adopt” local trails, natural areas, and community gardens, either solo or as part of a team, to help us steward these special sites.
Join us for an orientation to the new program, training on basic skills like trail maintenance, invasive species removal, plant identification, and an opportunity to sign up as a land steward!
Please let us know you’re coming by using this RSVP Form
Light food and beverages will be provided.
Meeting site information: We’ll be meeting in the Community Room of the Worthen Library. The room is accessible via stairs or elevator from the main entrance, or directly from the back parking lot along a paved walkway. For more accessibility information, please go to WorthenLibrary.org
More information about the program:
To become a land steward, volunteers will agree to minimum amounts of visits to their site each year, along with their team or solo, depending on the site. There are many different types of projects, from as simple as surveying the trail and notifying SHLT staff of any downed trees or other issues, to mowing trails, removing invasive species, monitoring for EAB-resistant ash, and more!
Land Stewards will receive ongoing support and training by SHLT staff, as well as special opportunities like volunteer appreciation events and special swag (South Hero Land Stewards hats and/or t-shirts coming soon!) Come to the event to learn more!
