Green Up Day

  • Folsom Playground 75 South Street South Hero, VT 05486 USA (map)

Join your friends and neighbors on May 4th for a community clean-up effort on Green Up Day!  South Hero Land Trust is organizing this annual event to clean up beaches, streets and trails that make South Hero special. There will be volunteer options for the whole family, and all volunteers are invited to the free BBQ afterwards! An hour or two of your time will make a huge difference in cleaning up our community in time for spring.

Street Cleanup

Independent street cleanup will take place all morning. Contact Guy at 372-3786 or guy@shlt.org to sign up for a street or street section. Green-Up Day bags and instructions will be available at the South Hero Land Trust Office.

White’s Beach Clean Up

This fun and rewarding activity is a great way to introduce young children to Green-Up Day. The whole family can help to remove trash and debris from White’s Beach, preparing the popular swimming spot for summer fun! Please wear sturdy shoes and bring gloves if you have them. We will provide gloves and bags. 10:00-11:00 AM.

Recreation Path Clean Up

Head to the South Hero Recreation Path though the Roy Marsh to do some spring trail maintenance- clearing the trail of winter debris and overgrown branches. Please wear good shoes, long pants, and work gloves. We will provide tools, but if you have a favorite pair of clippers or loppers, please bring them along! 9:30-11:00 AM.

Thank You BBQ

Join South Hero Land Trust from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM at the Folsom Education & Community Center Playground for our annual Green-Up Day Thank You BBQ. Celebrate a cleaner, greener South Hero with free burgers, veggie burgers, and hotdogs. The BBQ is held to thank dedicated volunteers for their hard work keeping South Hero beautiful and caring for the community landscape.

Play Day and Grand Opening at the Water Wigglers Learning Path

Join us to explore the new Water Wigglers Learning Path in the South Hero Recreation Park behind Folsom School. There will be fun activities for the kids and short guided along the trails. Guided walks will take place at 11:30 and 12:30, and self-guided walks will take place throughout the event.

All the fun will take place during the Green Up Day Thank You BBQ, which will be held this year to celebrate our great Green Up Day and Trail Volunteers.

For more information, or to sign up for a Green-Up Day volunteer activity, contact SHLT’s Programs Director, Guy Maguire, at 372-3786 or guy@shlt.org.
