More about the Gleaning Garden:
In partnership with Pigasus Meats, the Healthy Roots Collaborative, and local volunteers, we developed and coordinate the South Hero Community Gleaning Garden, growing vegetables and herbs for local meal programs and charitable food sites. We have a particular focus on culturally relevant food crops for migrant farmworkers in our region, distributed through the Healthy Roots Collaborative in partnership with the Open Door Clinic and Bridges to Health. Finally, we provide food to local meal programs and charitable food sites including Food for Thoughts, the Champlain Islands Food Shelf, Islands in the Sun, and St. Amadeus Church.
Join SHLT staff and fellow volunteers for an afternoon in the garden! We will be doing some fall garden tasks such as harvesting, weeding, and also…drumroll please… doing some groundwork for the new greenhouse going in later this fall!
Please bring gloves and plenty of water, and wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. We will provide tools and instructions.
RSVP: All are welcome. Please email guy@shlt.org to let us know you’re coming.
Come join us for a volunteer trail work party at The South Hero Recreation Park!
The Rec Park is a very important local resource: Not only is it the only ADA accessible trail in South Hero, but the trail is also home to a storywalk, exercise stations, interactive learning stations, and is frequently used by Folsom students and community members throughout the year.
The boardwalk at the rec park is in urgent need of repair, so we’ll be gathering on Thursday at 10am to replace about a dozen boards as well as some clean up work to make the trail corridor more passable.
The funding for this project is coming from the South Hero Recreation Commission, who manages the park.
No experience needed. We will provide tools. All are welcome, but please leave pets at home. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Come join us for a volunteer work party at Round Pond State Park!
We will be repairing and improving the trails, cleaning up the beach, and possibly more! Round Pond State Park’s diverse mix of natural communities provides critical wildlife habitat for numerous animals, including deer, mink, wild turkey, and a variety of amphibians. The Round Pond Wetland is considered one of the most important wetland complexes on Lake Champlain.
No experience necessary. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
All are welcome, but please leave pets at home. We will provide tools and instructions.

Please Bring: Water bottle, gloves (we’ll have extra), clothes and shoes you don’t mind getting dirty.
Guy and Anna have been hard at work prepping the garden for the 2023 growing season. While we are a bit behind, we are still on time to have another great season of growing food for local food shelves. However, we need your help! We would love any extra helping hands this Friday morning. We will be gathering to spread compost, lay down plastic mulch, put the deer fence up, and of course put some plants in the ground!
Please bring gloves and plenty water, and wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. We will provide tools.
