Come to the Folsom gym on Saturday, March 8th from 10am to 1pm to help build kestrel nest boxes! This project by the South Hero Conservation Commission was created as a local response to addressing the decline of the American Kestrel.
While the exact cause of their population loss is unknown, scientists are currently studying multiple potential culprits, which include loss of habitat, pesticides, climate change, and competition with other species. Kestrel nest box efforts have sprung up across the country in response to some data which indicate they may help with supporting localized populations.
The South Hero Conservation Commission is partnering with over 30 local residents to place nest boxes on their properties, and we need your help to construct the boxes! Please bring drills/drivers and bits, if you have them.
Hope to see you there! Questions? Email Conservation Commission chair Mark Naud at mnaudlaw AT gmail.com
